The Verband baugewerblicher Unternehmer Hessen e.V. (VbU) looks to the future with construction students from all over Hesse: three prize winners were honored with the Future Prize of the Hessian Construction Industry for outstanding final theses in the fields of architecture, civil engineering and the construction industry.

“With your work, you show us as an industry what is possible. Some of it is extraordinary, some of it stringently conceived, much of it sustainable and progressive. We are currently undergoing profound change, and not just in the construction industry. Resources for construction are limited, the energy-intensive industry must become more climate-friendly,” says VbU President Thomas Reimann. “In the construction and real estate sector, we are facing the biggest challenges of the future to date.”

The guest lecture by Prof. Oliver Tessmann also dealt with the topic of building of the future. In his lecture “Digital, modular, circular – contributions to sustainable architecture”, the trained architect presented recycling options for components using robot-assisted joining processes at the Technical University of Darmstadt.

Sustainable. Climate-positive. Forward-looking. That was the motto of the newly announced Future Prize and the numerous final theses submitted had to live up to this claim.

In the end, three particularly outstanding students received prize money of 2,500 euros each for their work:

Category Sustainable Planning and Management

Alina Grau, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences

“Leacy LEAF replacement of the supporting structure – from a concrete construction method to a wood-concrete hybrid construction method”

Supervising professor: Dr.-Ing. Holger Techen

Climate-positive building category

Bernadette Lang-Eurisch, Technical University of Darmstadt

“The effect of façade greening on the life cycle analysis of a residential district including thematic simulation”

Supervising professor: Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Knaack

Category Pioneering innovation in the construction sector

Patrick Lehaire, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences

The Future Prize was supported and awarded by the Bauakademie Hessen-Thüringen and VHV Versicherung. Presenter Jonas Muth hosted the award ceremony in an entertaining and confident manner.
