Façade Excursion to the Netherlands 2024
2024/10/02
After a break of several years, the Facade Technology department was once again able to bring theory and practice closer to students in the form of a excursion to the Netherlands.
Very early on June 4, the excursion group set off from Darmstadt for their first stop in Amsterdam. At the beginning of the trip, Prof. Knaack and the two research assistants led the 22 students on an architecture tour through the city center, past outstanding historical and modern façade projects, followed by a leisurely canal cruise. Visits to the University of Delft and the companies ABT and Octatube on day 2 provided plenty of input on façade planning and implementation, which was successfully implemented by everyone during the course of the day in the form of a small group challenge. Over dinner together at the Hotel New York, the participants reviewed their impressions and recharged their batteries for the final day. Here, things got sporty again: equipped with bicycles, the group explored various facade concepts in Rotterdam during a bicycle tour with Marcel Bilow. The excursion ended with a joint visit to the market hall in Rotterdam for a last Stroopwaffel before the return journey to Darmstadt.
